Description Zone Qty Unit power (W) Type Phase cos φ Diversity Power (kVA) Delete

Line power = quantity × unit power × diversity factor ÷ cos φ. The diversity factor (between 0 and 1) reflects the fact that not all equipment runs at full power at the same time. Single-phase lines set to “Auto” are allocated to the least loaded phase.

    - kVA

The source is sized on the most loaded phase (3 × 230 V × I max in three-phase), including the reserve. These guidelines do not replace a study: installation conditions, selectivity, operating modes and load criticality still need to be checked.

    How to use it

A few pointers for filling in your assessment.

    Unit power

Read it on the equipment's rating plate or data sheet, in watts. If in doubt, our teams draw on field data gathered since 2016.

    The diversity factor

1 if all the equipment on the line runs at full power at the same time, less otherwise. A realistic diversity factor avoids overcapacity, and therefore unnecessary equipment and energy.

    The line type

Choose “3ph” for equipment connected in three-phase and “1ph” for the rest. Leave the phase on “Auto” so that the tool balances the phases.

    Calculation method

    1. Installed power of a line = quantity × unit power.
    2. Diversified power = installed power × diversity factor.
    3. Apparent power = diversified power ÷ cos φ.
    4. Current: apparent power ÷ 230 V in single-phase, or ÷ (√3 × 400 V) on each phase in three-phase.
    5. Phase allocation: three-phase lines load all three phases; single-phase lines set to “Auto” are placed one by one, from the most to the least powerful, on the least loaded phase.
    6. Indicative rating: the standard rating (16, 32, 63, 125, 250, 400 A…) immediately above the current on the most loaded phase, including the reserve.
    7. Indicative source: 3 × 230 V × current on the most loaded phase, including the reserve (230 V × current in single-phase).
